Psychology is among the most popular undergraduate majors at the Newark campus of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. With Rutgers' top psychology faculty, facilities, and research programs, it's no wonder that nearly 3000 students major in psychology at any given time. Psychology is inherently intriguing-how do babies learn, how do social factors influence the brain, how can we treat autism? Studying psychology at Rutgers-Newark is all the more fascinating because undergraduates learn in small classes taught by brilliant faculty who share their passion for exploring human behavior. Rutgers-Newark also is home to the Aidekman Research Center for Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience, a national powerhouse known for its research into conditions such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, learning disabilities, and more. Adjacent to the campus are the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, which partner with Rutgers and provide access to advanced computing facilities and one of the nation's few university-based fMRI brain scanners.

Honors in Psychology

The Psychology Department is proud to offer the first and to date the only major on the Newark Campus in which students can earn the status of Honors in the Major of Psychology. This is an official designation that will appear on students' transcripts and diplomas. It is a mark of distinction showing that students have gone well above and beyond the minimum requirements to earn the major. Students who pursue the Honors in Psychology major may do so either in conjunction with participation in the Honors College at Rutgers, or they may choose to complete only the honors major in Psychology.
