Psychology | Undergraduate Programs

Psychology is among the most popular disciplines at Rutgers University – Newark.  Psychology is inherently intriguing – How does the social environment influence the brain? How do children learn?  How can we best understand, empathize with, explain, and effectively treat abnormal behavior? Studying psychology provides students with the opportunity to learn from faculty members who are experts in their  fields who delight in sharing their passion for exploring mental processes and behavior in the classroom and laboratory.

In addition to the psychology major and minor, we also offer a major in neuroscience and behavior, a minor in cognitive neuroscience, and a dual major in psychiatric rehabilitation which is offered jointly through our department and Rutgers School of Health Professions (SHP) in Piscataway, NJ.  This unique program offers training in both psychiatric rehabilitation and psychology, providing educational and clinical preparation for professional roles in psychiatric rehabilitation and community mental health settings.  Highly motivated students who excel academically and want to do hands-on research can also apply for our Honors in Psychology major program Undergraduate, graduate, and transfer students may also join Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology, to become further immersed within the field of psychology.
